Why artists should be in Yerevan this summer
Yerevan is not the city you think it is — if you think of it at all. Armenia's creative industries are booming, nearly doubling in value over the last decade. Independent platforms, cross-disciplinary communities, a vibrant art scene: all of it taking shape in real time, in a city most international audiences haven't caught up with yet.

hosq (flow in Armenian) is one of the forces making it happen. A creative foundation based in Yerevan, they run laboratories, residencies, open calls, a professional network, basically the kind of ecosystem that helps artists thrive. hosq’s flagship programme is Notations: a twelve-day interdisciplinary laboratory where 65 artists working across sound, music, visual and performance art, movement and somatic practices will spend twelve days making new work together. It culminates in a two-day public festival at the Armenian State Philharmonia and the National Gallery of Armenia. We heard a daily rave is part of the programme.
The second edition runs 20 July–2 August under the theme of Rituals and the call for artists hosq.co/notations-2-open-call closes 1 June. By the way, direct flights to Yerevan operate from London, Paris, Berlin, Vienna, Rome, Milan and beyond.
